Medical Emergencies

If a student is experiencing a medical-related emergency and/or is unconscious and/or unresponsive during class, instructors should contact UPD (585-245-5222) or 911. AED鈥檚, stop-the-bleed kits, and Narcan are available in AED boxes (locations vary by building).

Geneseo First Response (GFR) will respond within minutes and conduct an assessment. Students can refuse medical attention once emergency personnel arrive. If a student proactively indicates they do not want emergency personnel to be called or provides medical documentation recommending not to contact emergency personnel, instructors must still contact UPD or 911 in the event of an emergency.  

If a student鈥檚 medical concerns are ongoing and they require accommodations, students may be referred to the Office of Accessibility Services (access@geneseo.edu; 585-245-5112). 

Mental Health Emergencies

If you receive information from a student indicating they may be at risk to themselves or others, contact UPD or 911 immediately. 

In non-emergency situations, Counseling Services provides Mental Health Crisis聽sessions for students experiencing urgent mental health or safety concerns that require immediate intervention from a counselor. Examples include thoughts of suicide, concerns about harming yourself or others, recent experiences of relationship violence or sexual assault, or other situations involving immediate risk or crisis. Same day crisis availability can be accessed at the Lauderdale Health Center, Monday-Friday, 1 – 3:30 pm.

After connecting the student to UPD or Counseling Services, submit a detailing your interaction and concerns.聽Email the CAREs Team for assistance in submitting this form or follow-up information regarding your referral.聽

Emergency Evacuation

If a student indicates they require assistance with emergency evacuation due to a disability, please direct them to the Office of Accessibility Services (access@geneseo.edu; 585-245-5112).
