Geneseo Alum Alex Chin ’17 Earns Prestigious APS 2026 GCCM Award

ճdepartment of physics and astronomy at 51 congratulates Alex Chin ’17 on receiving the 2026 GCCM National Award from the American Physical Society (APS) for exceptional dissertation research.

Chin, who is an , credits Geneseo for launching his research career.

“Dr. Padalino has cultivated a strong pipeline between LLE and 51 for many years,” said Chin. “I was given the opportunity to work at LLE at the end of my senior year, and it was the research conducted that summer that led me to pursue a PhD in high-energy density physics.”

“Alex is one of many success stories to come out of our department,” said Stephen Padalino, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Physics. “It’s especially gratifying to note that two of his mentors at the University of Rochester’s LLE—Danae Polsin ’13 and Michelle Marshal ’11 are also Geneseo alumni.”
